03 October 25 - ✨ Barnsley Face Painting Jam – Colour, Friends & Inspiration ✨

Every now and then, you get a day that fills your heart, head, and even your shopping bag with inspiration. Donna’s Face Painting Jam in Barnsley was exactly that.

From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was buzzing. Imagine a hall packed with paints, brushes, stencils, glitters and artists all itching to dive in — it was like walking into a rainbow that had exploded in the best possible way. If you’ve ever been to a face painting jam, you’ll know that the temptation to buy “just one more” palette is real. Let’s just say my bag came home heavier than when I set out. (Paints have a sneaky way of leaping into your shopping bag when you’re not paying attention!)

But the Jam isn’t just about shopping — it’s about people. There’s something really special about being in a room full of artists who all share the same love of colour and creativity. I spent the day not just painting, but chatting, laughing, and learning. Meeting other face painters, swapping tips and stories, and making new friends is a huge part of why I love events like this.

I picked up new techniques, saw designs that made me want to rush straight home and practice, and came away with ideas I know I’ll bring to my own work. It’s like topping up your creative batteries — you don’t just leave with new paints, you leave with a fresh spark of inspiration.

The body painters were in a league of their own. Eight hours straight of painting… and the results were jaw-dropping. These weren’t just painted bodies — they were living, moving works of art. I stood there in awe, thinking: “This is basically the Sistine Chapel, but with more glitter.” Watching their process was fascinating, and I learned so much just from seeing how they layered colours, added detail, and turned skin into canvas.

And then, the highlight — I met the fabulous Council Estate Bev. Yes, the Bev. She was every bit as lovely and funny as you’d imagine, and it felt like meeting an old friend. Having her there as a special guest added a sparkle to the day that no amount of glitter could match.

By the end of the Jam, my feet were aching, my head was full of new ideas, and I felt so lucky to be part of this colourful, supportive community. Being a face painter isn’t just about paints and brushes — it’s about the people you meet along the way, the skills you share, and the joy you bring to others.

So thank you, Barnsley, and thank you Donna, for creating such a wonderful event. I came home tired but happy, full of inspiration, and ready to dive back into painting with fresh energy.

Until the next Jam… I’ll be practising, painting, and maybe finding a bit more room for all those new palettes!
